Are you a planner or a wing-it type person? Last year I wrote about how I am the queen of organized winging-it. As I start planning for the 2013-14 school year, one constant that we are going to strive to do each day is Bible study. Oh, believe me, I’ve written that in my daily schedule for the last several years. Some days it is rushed, other days our Bible time is savored and some days we just didn’t get it done. I write it in my schedule not as a to-do item (though it is something I should do) but as an appointment reminder. Thank you Jesus that you don’t ditch me due to all the times I’ve missed our appointments with you!
If you are needing a devotional to get your family on-track and in a Bible-study routine, you might check out Adventures in Odyssey’s (ad) 90 Devotions for Kids, aimed at kids 8 to 12. This soft-cover book draws you in with illustrations, puzzles, and kid-friendly applications. It also includes a daily Bible verse, daily challenges, words of encouragement from different AIO characters, and more. Even if your kids aren’t already Adventures in Odyssey fans, they’ll enjoy these daily devotionals, and get to know the Odyssey crew along the way.

Only tip I have is routine, routine, routine, This would be a wonderful resource for keeping on track and maintaining a routine. Don’t like to admit that it can be very difficult sometimes to do that. Keeping fingers crossed for Adventures in Ody!!ssey
Schedule…everything! can you tell I’m a planner? haha We plan out our day and have a pretty tight daily routine and everyone feels it if we don’t stick to it. My husband and I even plan in “wing it times.” lol This is times we want to go on a field trip or to a park or something but don’t want the kids to lose focus on their school for the morning or whatever is going on that day. This way, we can feel comfortable and in control but the kids get the surprise of something out of the routine. Having a large family has pushed up into a more structured routine. Back in the day I planned nothing. haha For someone just starting out I’d say to start small. Try to just focus on the first few hours of the day. Once you feel like you have those hours structured well, add in a few more and so one.
Good advice about starting small and trying to focus on the first few hours of the day.
The tip I offer is being consistent with your routine. We sometimes slack and it throws our day and attitude out of whack. I also believe it is important to model your expectations to your children. Spend at least several weeks showing them the routine and practicing procedures for the day.
Another great point that it takes time to develop a routine. You can’t just expect kids to get on board right away.
Like everthing else, make it a commitment and stick to it!
Make it visual, when I have a chart posted we stick to it for the most part, when I don’t it all goes out the window.
Yes! Even I forget if it’s not right in front of me.
Be consistent and make it a priority,
That as a mom you can’t be lazy (I am bad on this one).
Keeping it simple has helped me be the most consistent. It’s hard if you have a wide spread of ages but the Bible itself speaks to all age groups (sometimes I think our devotions convict me the most). My two younger girls listen to Adventures in Odyssey nearly every night. This devotional sounds perfect for them. 🙂
Start planning early!
Start with doing one habit at a time. I find Bible reading and devotions to be the most important part of anyone’s routine, so that should be the one thing we should focus on before moving on to a new habit. 🙂 Great giveaway!
Is to be consistent when you start your routine!
make sure it is something that YOU really want to do not just an obligation.
Thanks! This would be a great tool to have for my kiddos!
Hmmm….I am terrible at establishing routine, but I know my problem is my own lack of discipline toward it. So set a routine for yourself first and then for your kids!
Write down your schedule and be flexible to change.
i like to have certain “anchors” to the day….like same regular times for Breakfast, snack , lunch and quiet time….and try to follow a routine of what happens in between those times, but to be flexible and just move on to the next “anchor” of the day and let God’s peace fill me 🙂
Love this concept! Perfect for those who don’t function on a strict time schedule.
with little ones, it can be hard to do just that 🙂
Be consistent, but willing to make adjustments as needed.
Make a plan and stick to it! Also, allow extra time for sick days or off days in your planning.
