Cloud Dough

June 1, 2013 by Maureen Spell 3 Comments

It was a rainy afternoon. We had planned on going to the pool but thunder nixed that idea. Since the girls were restless, I turned to Pinterest for help. I cam across several different “cloud dough” activities and thought we’d give that a try!

We used the recipe from Tinkerlab. If you head on over to her post she has a printable version of the cloud dough recipe.

Here’s how we made ours:

8 cups of flour

1 cup of oil (we used sunflower oil because that is all I had on-hand.)

5 drops of lavender essential oil

Make a big mound of flour in a plastic bin. Dig a small crater in the center and pour the oils. Mix everything together with your hands (or better yet have your kids mix it.) Once everything is blended together, it will have a light, powdery feel yet it is moldable. I added lavender essential oil to give a little scent (plus lavender can help calm and soothe children.)  We used Cloud Dough just like we would Play Dough. It was a great (but messy) sensory activity for the girls. It was a perfect activity to help combat rainy day blues!

Love this — pinning it — I think it will help combat some VERY HOT summer days blues, too!

    Thankful for you!

How fun! I’ve been wanting to try this, but don’t know how it will work with gluten free flour. It looks like so much fun! Thanks for shaing at Collage Friday!
