Easy DIY lotion

July 6, 2014 by Maureen Spell 1 Comment

Over the past few years, my family has been using essential oils and oil-infused products in our daily routines. We have been ditching the old, more chemically laden products in our house with natural options. I started reading labels and was appalled at what I was using, thinking I was making good choices for my family. It’s been a series of baby-steps towards wellness for us. I love that essential oils are so versatile and a great wellness tool to have in my home.

One simple way to use oils is to create various easy “lotions” to apply topically. It’s also one of the easiest ways to use with my kids. Here are a few of our favorite combinations.

Easy DIY Lotion with Essential Oils

Having young children, one of the easiest ways for them to use essential oils is in a “lotion.” Basically I dilute various essential oils with organic coconut oil and store in 4oz. mason jars. In the video above I show how easy it is to. Here are a couple of our favorite mixtures:

Gentle Baby Lotion:

I used this as a lotion for my newborn son

  • 4 oz. organic coconut oil
  • 8-15 drops of Young Living Gentle Baby essential oil

Uses: use instead of baby lotion and as a baby massage oil

Boo-Boo Lotion:

  • 4 oz. organic coconut oil
  • 15 drops of  frankincense essential oil
  • 15 drops of melaleuca alternifolia essential oil
  • 10 drops of lavender essential oil

Uses: put on cuts and scrapes to help support the skin.

“Pizza” Lotion

  • 4 oz. organic coconut oil
  • 15-20 drops of oregano essential oil

Uses: put on feet to help support the immune system

Spending too much time in the leaves

  • 4 oz. organic coconut oil
  • 25 drops of Joy essential oil
  • 10 drops of  lavender essential oil
  • 10 drops of melaleuca alternifolia essential oil

Uses: put on desired location; help support the skin

Please note that not all oils are created equal. As I’ve researched companies and their farming and growing methods, I’ve learned that many companies who sell their oils on Amazon or at other drug stores aren’t selling 100% pure oils – they’re selling diluted oils (where a less expensive oil like fractionated coconut oil is added) OR they’re selling oils that have chemicals added to make them smell better.

Note: Don’t waste your money on the knock offs!

I personally use Young Living essential oils because of their Seed to Seal promise. They control EVERY aspect of the oil from when the plant is first planted, to weed management (no pesticides are used!), to harvest to distilling to testing to bottling – everything is done by Young Living’s standards (which far exceed the organic industry standards, BTW).

If you want to get essential oils and learn alongside my supportive community, you can do that right HERE.

Yes, you can take NingXia multiple times a day, but I would start slow. As for other ways to lower chlolesterol– there are wonderful reference materials at Life Science Publishing that could point you in the right direction.
