Nature walk

September 19, 2013 by Maureen Spell 2 Comments

Yesterday we took a friend with us on a short nature hike at Minnetrista. The kids had so much fun looking for frogs! The lack of rain though had caused the pond to be half the normal size. I think most of the frogs had burrowed in the mud. We talked about where the frogs might have gone (we come here often and had seen really big bull frogs before.) We also talked about what happened to the pond. Why was it so small? What happened to the water?

Nature Journal

Today they pulled out their paper bag nature journal and drew one thing that they saw on their walk from yesterday. Here’s a video I made that shows how to make a paper bag journal– they are so easy and can be used for any subject!

What have you seen on your latest nature walk? Are you studying a specific animal or plant?
