Over the past couple of years my children have enjoyed learning how to use chalk pastels. Now I could take all the credit, but alas, that would be wrong 🙂 It’s all been because of “Nana” and her chalk tutorials. We’ve enjoyed her pdf tutorials on all types of subjects— and it has been a simple way to add art into our homeschool routine.
This week however, Nana released a video art class!

Simple Art Lessons At Home: Video Course
When I can, I like to have activities that all my children can participate in because it saves me time and allows me to get more done during our week. For us, using A Simple Start in Chalk Pastels aff has been an awesome fit into our schedule. My children ages 10, 8, 6, and 4 can all work on the same lesson! Sometimes even my teenager joins us. There are many chalk art pdf tutorials on so many different subjects! And now there is a video course — which is an awesome way to see the whole process from start to completion.
Why a Video Course?
Today I pulled up A Simple Start in Chalk Pastels lesson on my computer, put it on the table and gathered my children around. We watched the video once straight through and then we got our chalk art supplies and worked at our own pace. It was super convenient to be able to rewind and pause as we were working on our projects. And it wasn’t me having to do the teaching! You know, sometimes I just need a break 🙂 A Simple Simple Start in Chalk Pastels Video Course (aff)
Reasons I’m Drawn to This Video Course:
- I can use it with multiple age-ranges without it being too hard for one or too easy for another
- Very few supplies needed (basically just chalk pastels)
- Can be easily incorporated into our homeschool week
- I don’t have to leave home
- My students are learning from a master artist
- It provides a framework for art instruction in our homeschool
- Independent learning for my older students
A Simple Start in Chalk Pastels Video Course contains 45 video lessons- which is enough to do one a week during your homeschool year! I’ve looked at art classes for my children, and I know that it can be quite a financial commitment per student. With this video course, it ends up being a little over $4 per lesson– and you can watch and re-watch as much as you want. There is also a Facebook Group that you can join to get more ideas, share your work or connect with other chalk art artists.
