Water Play with Baby Dolls

October 26, 2012 by Maureen Spell 2 Comments

This week my youngest turned 2! One of the gifts we picked out was a baby doll she could wash.

We got some baby wash cloths, baby soap, and a plastic shoe box. After she opened her gift, she just had to wash her baby!

What a great excuse to play in the water! Plus she was practicing some valuable skills such as bathing, caring for babies, pouring, and more. I love how Pink & Green Mama added a towel drying rack to her baby washing station. I think that adds another wonderful pretend play/practical life element to the activity.

My 5yr. old and 4yr. old were just as excited to wash the baby as the 2yr. old. I also planned this to help them get excited about our own upcoming baby. As they were washing the doll, we talked about how they were going to be able to help me wash our new little baby. Several days later, this was still a daily requested activity. It was nice to see a gift played with over and over again! After the newness wears off, I’ll pack the doll up in the plastic tub and bring back out at a later time. It is a wonderful activity to pull out again and again.

I love this idea, and I have no doubt that my 20-month-old daughter would love it, too! What a great way to help prepare little ones for a new baby, as well!

This is so cute! I remember a mom blogging about letting her older daughter set up a “swimming pool” in the bathroom sink, while she gave the new baby a bath. so much fun!
